Tripoli International Fair TIF 2013

The President of the General National Congress (GNC), Mohamed Magariaf, presided over the 41st annual Tripoli International Fair (TIF) ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday, Tuesday.

Members of the government were also present, including the Ministers of Tourism, Martyrs and Missing Persons, Health, Agriculture and Livestock, Water Resources, Local Government, Transportation, and Culture and Civil Society.

Foreign diplomats were also in attendance, in a bid to increase bilateral relations with Libya. The Tunisian Minister of Vocational Training and Employment, Abdelwahab Matar, and Morocco’s Minister of Industry, Trade and New Technologies, Abdelkader Aamara, spoke to Magariaf about the possibilities of increasing economic ties, according to Libya TV.

In addition to Tunisia and Morocco, 13 other countries, as well as more than 36 local and international companies, are participating in this year’s event, which runs until 12 April.

TIF is greatly anticipated by locals, as it offers a platform for them to interact with international traders in various sectors.

In his opening speech, Magariaf highlighted the importance of the fair. “This exhibition sends a message to everybody that Libya is safe and welcomes you all to participate in its construction, development and investment,” he said.

The fair’s Committee Chairman, Salah al-Din Ben Hamza, said he saw the event as a microcosm of the business activities taking place across the country. The event would “stimulate economic and business interest, in accordance with standards of fair competition in the national economy,” Ben Hamza said.
