April 2013

Warriors Affairs Commission

The Libyan government agreed on Monday that 18,000 former revolutionaries who have university degrees should be sent to universities abroad to gain masters and doctoral degrees.

According to Prime Ministry’s website, the revolutionaries – who are under the auspices of the Warriors Affairs Commission – will be sent in staggered groups. The first 5,000 will go this year. A second group of 4,000 students will head abroad next year 2014, a third of 4,500 in 2015 and the final 4,500 in 2016.

According to Cabinet Resolution No. 166, the duration of studies will be 36 months for a master’s degree and 48 months for a doctorate. The Ministry of Higher Education is to cover all expenses.

The government says it hopes that the education provided under the scheme will match needs to build the new Libya.
