Libya’s national carrier, Libyan Airlines plans to codeshare with Tunisair to launch a Tripoli-Tunis-Montreal service next year.

Tunisair director-general Rabah Jrad has said that the planned flights would use Libyan Airlines’ A330-200 fleet, the first of which was delivered last month to Tripoli

The flights would take off in Tripoli, stop over in Tunis and have Montreal’s Trudeau airport as their final destination.

Libyan transport minister Mohamed al-Ayib also mentioned the plans recently.

Currently neither Libyan Airlines nor Tunisair offer any transatlantic routes, although prior to 2011 Afriqiyah Airways – the other state-owned Libyan carrier – had plans for a direct Tripoli-Washington service.

Libyan Airlines has a further three A330s on order from Airbus, and intends to expand its network of long-haul routes, especially to Southeast Asia.
