Major maintenance work on Tripoli International and Sebha airports has been given cabinet approval.

Proposals from the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority for the project by Tripoli’s Africa Engineering Company at Sebha International and by Brazilian contractor Odebrecht at Tripoli International were both given the go-ahead.

Odebrecht originally won the project at the capital’s airport in 2007 as part of a joint venture through its Portuguese subsidiary Bento Pedroso Construcoes (BPC), with Turkey’s TAV and Lebanon’s Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) , which each held a 25 percent share of the contract.

Among other decisions, the cabinet, meeting on Thursday also agreed the setting up of two higher institutes in Misrata, for Heavy Machinery and for Agriculture and Veterinary studies. It further accepted a proposal that a languages college be established in Shahat.

The Libyan news agency Lana also reported that that it was agreed that housing rent allowances should be paid to 709 families in Beida.
