The Ministry of Tourism will be raising Libya’s international profile at the November World Travel Market 2013 in London.

“The main aim of our participation is to improve the international image of Libya,” Director of the Ministry’s Tourism Promotion Department, Zakariah Ahmed Abu Zaid, told the Libya Herald. “We want the world to see that Libya is working now, including its institutions and civil society organisations.”

Abu Zaid said the Ministry would not be marketing the actual tourist industry, mainly because of the current security situation, but that the exhibition was a valuable opportunity to boost the country’s image.

Promotional materials, including books showing examples of Libya’s rich cultural heritage, will be distributed at the exhibition, as well as a new DVD the Ministry has just produced. This 45-minute film, Zaid said, showed muchof Libya, including its historic sites, natural wonders and main towns and cities.

The Libya stand at the World Travel Market will represent all sectors of the industry, including hotels and tourism companies. In total 24 members of the Ministry, as well as the Minister herself, Ikram Bash Imam, attending the event.

“This is a very important and international event,” media office memeber Tarek Al-Senussi Al-Arbi told the Libya Herald, adding that this was the eighth consecutive year the Ministry had participated in the fair.

The World Travel Market exhibition will be held at London’s ExCel exhibition centre. It is open from 10 am to 6 pm Monday to Wednesday 4 – 6 November, and 10 am to 5 pm on Thursday 7 November.
