Tripoli, 16 December 2015:

Ahead of tomorrow’s two-day EU summit in Brussels, which is expected to be dominated by terrorism and migration, Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi has told the Rome parliament that Libya is pivotal to his country’s foreign policy.

He was reported by the Italian news agency ANSAmed to have warned legislators in the Senate “Even though there are no immediate threats, it is essential that Libya be considered the keystone of our Mediterranean policy” .

He added: “ If there is a country in which Italy can play a significant committed role, it can only be Libya”.
